Sweet River Counseling is a small private practice in a beautiful rural setting, roughly 40 minutes from downtown Portland. Suited for clients ages 10 and up, this experientially focused practice uses animals, the natural world, and the exploration of relationship to help clients find connection to self and others. Interactions with horses, alpacas, the abundance of nature, and the ever-present barn kitty give clients a hands-on approach toward new discoveries and healing. Sessions may include time with animals in the stalls or arena, a walk on country roads or in the pasture, and time to reset or process in the office.
Horses are sensitive and non-judgmental partners in the therapy process. They are able to provide feedback for clients when processing situations and learning how to better regulate emotions.
These animals can help clients learn about empathy, presence and trust. They also bring joy to the barnyard with their fluff and curiosity.
